Due to COVID-19 the Expo 2020 will start at October 1 in 2021
The largest event ever staged in the Arab world is set to welcome 190 participating countries and millions of visitors from across the globe.
We hoped to be in Dubai in October to photograph the architecture of several pavilions, but with the Corona Virus spreading the world this was wishful thinking at that moment. Now we hope we’ll be there October 2021!

Because the ‘architectural photography season’ in the Netherlands, starts for me in April or May, as far as I’m concerned, I visited Spain and Portugal in March to photograph a lot of interesting modern architecture! What to think about the wonderful Metropol Parasol from architekt Jürgen Mayer-Hermann in Sevilla, the beautiful Palace of Justice, architecture by Mecanoo & Ayesa and the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Cordoba (C3A) from architect Nieto Sobejano in Córdoba. In Portugal I visited MAAT – the Museum for Art, Architecture and Technology designed by Amanda Levete Architects and had a nice day at the Parque das Nações ( Park of Nations ) enjoying all the architecture from the Expo ’98 and the Gare do Oriente Lisbon by Santiago Calatrava.

During my architectural trip in 2018, I also visited Lille to photograph modern architecture. Not only the Euralille shopping centre from architect Jean Nouvel and the wonderful tower Tour de Lille from architect Christian de Portzamparc, but also the funny flower facade Le Vérose from architect Dominique Perrault.

I love Barcelona, not only because of Messi, but also because of the pleasant atmosphere and the architecture Modernisme Català, the Catalan variant on art nouveau as not only seen in Gaudi , but also in Hospital de la Santa Creu from architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner
